Koh Pha Ngan Ecology Koh
Pha Ngan is situated on the north of Koh
Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. It is approximately
12 kilometers from the nearest border of Koh Samui
and 100 kilometers from the northeast of Surat Thani
province. There are six islands in Koh Pha Ngan
group; Pha Ngan, Tao, Tae Nok, Tae Nai, Ma, and
Nai Yuan.
Geography
2/3 of the Koh Pha Ngan is mountainous and covered
with dense forest. The part of the east is covered
with the series mountains with open seas until to
the mountain of Luang in Surat Thani and Nakorn
Sri Thammarat. The beautiful gulfs and beaches located
on the west side. 70% of Koh Pha Ngan is mountainous
and significant source of rivers. The important
mountain peaks are Kao Rha, 627 meters, which is
the highest peak in the north, Kao Mai Ngam, 535
meters, in the south, Kao Tah Luang, 478 meters
in the northwest, and Kao Lad Mai Keaw, 378 meters
in the east of Koh Pha Ngan.
Climate
Koh Pha Ngan is tropical territory which is neighboring
Koh Samui. It rain almost all year long due to it
is covered with mountains. The ocean breezes has
much influenced in this area. The southwest wind
blows across the Indian Ocean and out of the northeast
the winds of the south China Sea and the gulf of
Thailand blow pass the island. The average mean
temperature of the year is about 27.2c (80F).
Its usually doesnt get any higher than
35.5c (96F) which happens in May and the lowest
temperature is around 24c (75F) at the end of December
or in the early January. There is just two seasons
in Koh Pha Ngan, the rainy season and the summer
season. The rainy season will start in May and continues
until January. The wind will blow from three directions
and it usually bring the clouds and rain which is
influent occurs rain in the afternoon in each day.
The summer season will starts near the end of February
and continue until April. This time is the most
pleasant time to visit Koh Pha Ngan. Sometimes during
this time there is the south or southeast wind will
bring in rain clouds which causes the monsoon for
5-10 days during November to January. This time
is very dangerous to travel by boat.
